why play therapy?
Rather than relying primarily on talking, play therapy uses play to help therapists understand a child’s social, emotional, behavioral, and relational needs. Through dollhouses, modeling clay, puppets, and other creative activities, your child can express their feelings and make sense of challenging experiences in ways that feel natural and developmentally appropriate. Play can help children work through anxiety, trauma, and stress without having to put their feelings or experiences into words before they are ready.
Garry Landreth said it best: “Toys are children's words and play is their language.” Let milestones play therapy & counseling serve as the translator for you and your child!

Yes! We will meet periodically throughout my work with your child. These caregiver support sessions are separate from my individual play therapy sessions with your child. Because every family is different, there may be times when your child and I invite you into the playroom. I will ensure you are prepared ahead of time if that is ever indicated during treatment.

During your child’s first play therapy session, I’ll introduce myself, help them get comfortable in the playroom, and explain what they can expect. We’ll begin the play assessment phase, which gives me an opportunity to get to know your child through play, observe how they express themselves, and learn about their unique strengths and needs.

Your child doesn’t need to know how to talk about their feelings or understand therapy before they begin treatment. I'll meet them where they are and give them time to become comfortable, build trust, and engage at their own pace through play and expressive art activities.
